New STARFLEET Historian needed
Friday, 14 June 2013 01:56
Good evening, everyone,

A few days ago, I received Jeff Higdon's resignation as the STARFLEET
Historian. Jeff has found that being R12's Regional Coordinator and Chair
of IC2014 are taking the lion's share of his time, and that, unfortunately,
his enthusiasm for the position has begun to wane and has resulted in work
in the Historian's Office slide.

I'd like to thank Jeff for his time as STARFLEET's Historian and wish him
all the best in his future work in Region 12, at IC2014, and in STARFLEET
as a whole.

At this time, I am accepting applications for Jeff's successor in the
Historian's Office.

STARFLEET's Historian website is quite a bit out-of-date, the information
is that we currently have on the site is only really current up through the
Malotte Administration, and I'd like to see us get completely up to date
with our recent history.

The successful candidate should feel comfortable communicating with many
different people to conduct research on the various administrations, and
should feel comfortable in writing narratives based upon fact and evidence
and not upon innuendo or unsubstantiated fact.

A candidate will need to be comfortable with some amount of web
development, or otherwise be willing and able to bring someone on into the
Historian's Office to update the web pages of the site once the history
narratives have been drafted and reviewed by a multiple resources for
accuracy.

The Office of the STARFLEET Historian is a place where we want our history
to be accurate, not unnecessarily white washed, or otherwise incorrectly
portrayed.

If you are interested in the role, please drop me a line. A sample of your
writing style should be supplied for review if available.

Thanks!

Open Position: Chief of Communications
Tuesday, 02 April 2013 17:11

cqcommSTARFLEET is presently taking applications for the position of Chief of Communications, STARFLEET.  As per the membership handbook:

"The Chief of Communications (COC) is the fourth in command of STARFLEET and is responsible for the timely publication and distribution of official Fleet communications materials. The COC is also responsible for overseeing the triennial STARFLEET election process for Commander and Vice-Commander of STARFLEET, and usually serves as Election Coordinator. At the discretion of the Commander, STARFLEET, the COC may be responsible for the publication of other Fleet documents or publications. The COC is appointed by the Commander, STARFLEET, and shall report at least once per month to them. The Chief of Communications shall be at least 23 years old."

This position is a management role in STARFLEET.  While it would help to have an understanding of newsletter production, we are gearing this role to be much more of a management position to work with and organize people, and ensure that the CQ moves efficiently through the production phases for both the PRINT and ONLINE versions of The Communiqué.  The successful candidate will also be able to work with our printing and mailing vendor to ensure that the CQ is printed and mailed in a timely manner.

Additionally, as the membership handbook notes, the Chief of Communications is also responsible for overseeing the upcoming election.  This may be done in coordination with additional staff members, but will require interaction and coordination with the Inspector General, STARFLEET.

The Chief of Communications is also the Chief Moderator of the SFI-L, TenForward-L and SFI-Announce-L lists, and is required to participate in monthly EC Conference Calls and to vote on promotions and awards.

Anyone who is interested in serving as the Chief of Communications should privately send their personal and STARFLEET resumes to Commander, STARFLEET Dave Blaser at cs@sfi.org by April 21st, 2013.
